Druk Path trek is one of the finest short treks in Bhutan. Leading through an ancient trading route, over high mountain passes, it connects the valleys of Paro and Thimphu. Trail passes through spectacular rhododendron forests, alpine yak pastures and beautiful lakes stocked with snowy mountain trout’s.

The trek begins by walking up through apple orchards and pine forests pass Jele Dzong (fortress), which sits on a high grassy ridge with breath-taking views of mountain Jumolhari (7,314m) to the north. In the next 4 days, we climb above the tree line and cross several passes, including the Phume la (4210m). En-route, we come across clear mountain lakes, number of yak herder’s camps and have splendid view of Himalaya along the Bhutan- Tibet border including mountain Jumolhari (7,314m), Jitchu Drake(6,989m) and Ganger Puensum(7,497m). Our final descent is through pine and juniper forests via Phajoding monastery would lead into Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

Day-1: Jangchublakha(3,780m). trek starts from Damchena Village.

13km. 4-5 hours – (ascent 1330m, decent 10m.)
Today after breakfast we will drive to the road head at Damchena village passing National Museum (2,487m) following farm road from where we will start our trek. Walking starts up hill through apple orchards and pine forests. Visit Jele Dzong 3,490m), perched on a whale back ridge. Jele Dzong is restored recently from its ruins and there is a Lhakhang with the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. On a clear day the views of Paro Town far bellow and of mount. Jumolhari (7,314m) are breathtaking. Descend below the ridgeline to walk through the trail of thick alpine forests and rhododendrons. We may see yak herders in the area. There are fascinating views of Jumolhari, and other snow capped mountains and we can also hear some Monal Peasants during the day. We continue our uphill walk to reach yak herders pasture at Jangchublakha (3,780m) with outstanding view of the Himalayan range; we camp in a yak pasture near the hill side.

Day-2: Jangchublakha- Jigmelangtsho Lake(3,880m)

11km. 4-5 hours (ascent 400m, descent 300m.)
The trail follows the ridge and at the times through juniper trees and dwarf rhododendrons. The views of the mountain valleys of Thimphu and Paro are sensational. After making an ascent and then a steep descent, we arrive at Jigmelangtsho Lake (3,880m). The lake is famous for their giant sized trout’s. Near the camp we can have great views of Jichu Drake (6,989m), the peak representing the protective deity of Paro.

Day-3: Jigmelangtsho lake-Simkotatsho lake (4,110m)

11km. 4-5 hours. ( ascent 270m)
The trail will takes us through dwarf rhododendron trees and bypass the lake of Janetsho. We may come across some yak harder’s camp and get an idea how these people live. Trail winds and undulates with magnificent view of the Himalaya across deep valleys Simkotatsho Lake (4,110m) can be seen bellow after crossing on final spur. We continue our trek until we reach the yak pasture where we camp for tonight.

Day-4: Simkotatsho Lake- Phajoding (3,870m)

12km. 4-5hours (ascent 100m, descent 1,470m)
Today we will begin with a gradual climb to a small saddle at Labana (4,150m) from where we can enjoy majestic view of mountain Gangkhar Puensum and other Himalayan peaks on clear weather. We will then descend to another small lake and then climb to the Phume la pass (4210m) which is adorned with beautiful prayer flags. From here, we will enjoy great view of Thimphu city far below.

The trail slowly descends through junipers trees to a community hall near Phajoding (3,870m). Were our today’s camp is.

Day-5: Phajoding – Thimphu city.

7km. 3hours (descent 570m.)
Today before we start our walk down hill, we will visit12th century Phajoding Lhakhang for blessing and walk to Thimphu through forests of blue pine and juniper until we arrive to the road head in the outskirts of Thimphu valley. We will be received by our driver and drive us to the hotel. Rest of the day will be relaxing day. End of the wonderful trek.
